BEACH STREET LOFT

In the renovation of this urban loft space, the design of the interior was dictated in large part by the owners' extensive collection of art photography. The goal was to create a living space that both showcased and complemented the photos - and also functioned as a work of art in its own right. The owners sought to preserve some of the roughness of the original loft space, keeping its character while updating its façade.

To these ends, DWA focused on light and texture. The interior of the loft glows with the honeyed tones of natural wood and diffused light (the sources of which are carefully concealed by sculptural wall elements, recessed sconces, and an innovative wooden fixture suspended over the dining room table). The elaborate lighting scheme shows off both the art on the walls and the walls themselves - the apartment is rich with the textures of exposed brick, recycled barn boards, and polished wood. Smooth offsets rustic, uniting the loft's utilitarian roots with its refined renovations.
